G-Log logs in
Oracle appeals to the transport market today, announcing the general availability of Oracle Transportation Management 5.5. The release represents the first production out of Oracle subsumee G-Log.
The newest version of Oracle Transportation Management seeks to integrate and streamline global transportation planning and execution, freight payment and business process automation on a single platform. Oracle Transportation Management is available both as a stand-alone product or as part of the Oracle e-business suite. T
he product’s new fleet and contract carrier capabilities that evaluate land-based transportation options are touted, as is the ability to identify network-compatible lanes with sufficient, repeatable volume. Key enhancements specific to the upgrade include three-dimensional load modeling, a program which actually creates detailed loading instructions accounting for actual item characteristics; dock and yard management; and wireless carrier communications.
Also included are new web services that expose key functional and informational components to external applications, a bonus that the Oracle public relations department informs the Chump and us all is part of the giant’s “effort to evolve Oracle Transportation Management into a service-oriented architecture platform.”
With a significant amount of innovation in Oracle Transportation Management 5.5, Oracle has demonstrated its continued focus on quickly delivering new solutions that support global operations across multiple industries.
Based upon the capabilities of Oracle Transportation Management, Oracle won the "Logistics Service Provider of the Year" award at the China Logistics Summit and Awards held in Beijing in July 2006. Oracle Transportation Management was also recently positioned in the Leader Quadrant in Gartner’s 2006 Transportation Management Systems Magic Quadrant.
