How difficult is implementation? Survey says…
Representatives of PMP Research have announced the release of a report entitled “Time to Talk” and commissioned by the Evaluation Centre detailing issues enterprises are facing in linking key operational systems.
Some key numbers from the study show that:
• 40 percent of enterprises report difficulties in integrating their legacy systems with newer applications such as CRM. Of those polled, 21 percent stated this had been done “very well,” 30 percent called their integration “adequate,” and 7 percent claimed to have no requirement for the stuff.
• 30 percent have in place an operating system composed of standalone and bespoke packages.
• 14 percent of respondents reported using an operating system comprised of integrated ERP packages.
• As to reasons for integration, 84 percent stated a goal of improvement to operational effectiveness.
• 77 percent of those polled stated they had an IT group responsible for integration activity.
• 26 percent of respondents stated that they had had to abandon an integration project.
• Some 63 percent are using web services technology in integration projects.
• 65 percent are implementing or considering a services-oriented architecture. The two most commonly cited reasons for choosing SOA are the beliefs that “SOA will make it easier to align IT more closely with business requirements” and that “SOA opens the way to greater organisational flexibility and agility.”
