More on the Vista release date(s)

A slight addendum to an earlier entry here at CRMChump. The “long-awaited” Microsoft Windows Vista operating system will actually be available on November 30 to larger business clients at an event at the Nasdaq Stock Market on that day (the first step in the accompanying media blitz). Those buying Windows licenses in bulk will get the new system this month, we have been assured.

Microsoft executives have stated that the software would in fact become available to the general public on January 30, right within the target date set by the firm. Exec Jim Allchin was quoted in the Los Angeles Times as stating that Vista’s code was released Wednesday to manufacturing, a step that would allow the company to begin making the copies that would be distributed with PCs and sold at stores.

In its coverage, the LA guys also reported, a tad ominously, that, “In its quest to get Vista out the door … Microsoft has had to scale back some of its original goals, including scrapping a more sophisticated method for sorting and organizing data. Analysts have said that scaling back the system could hurt the company if people don’t see enough reason to upgrade.” Can you say, “uh oh”? Prepare to sell Microsoft high in the near future, eh?
