Sony on the EDGE

Building upon its global PC card business, Sony Ericsson representatives announced the quad band GC86 EDGE PC Card, successor to the GC85 PC Card, and compatible with many common business applications including CRM, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, Lotus Notes, Netscape, SAP, Siebel and Messenger. The GC86 features an integrated antenna and is designed for entry level PC laptop users.

Data speeds of 247 kilobytes per second can be achieved, a speed three times as fast as GPRS. Installation support for the GC86 includes customization options that allow corporate IT managers to implement pre-loaded settings that promise to provide one click VPN connection. Data security comes in the form of EDGE/GPRS encryption technology and the SIM card prevents unauthorized access. GC86 is compatible with all leading VPNs, enabling secure passage through corporate firewalls.
