Tecumseh chooses Oracle
Next up for Oracle was the announcement that Tecumseh Products Company, an independent global manufacturer and supplier, has selected the Oracle E-Business Suite as the platform for its information technology initiative Single Common Global Growth, to be rolled out to 35 manufacturing plants worldwide.
With Tecumseh’s SCG2 implementation was the deployment of Oracle Product Lifecycle Management, in the hopes of creating a single, global parts catalogue. Tecumseh is a manufacturer of hermetic compressors, gasoline engines, power train components, section pumps and small electric motors. Like its new friend Oracle, Tecumseh experienced massive growth through acquisition, along with massive growth in complication of problems.
Each company acquired continued as an autonomous division with independent business systems, research and development centers, manufacturing plants and specialized labs. First in the process of Oracle PLM was establishment of the Tecumseh Engineering Centers of Excellence, a virtual collaborative environment in which company executives have been able to evaluate business processes and apply best practices across divisions.
In the centers, Tecumseh leverages Oracle to manage the product lifecycle. Oracle Product Lifecycle Management, which includes Oracle Collaboration Suite, Oracle Configurator, Oracle Discrete Manufacturing, Oracle Project Management, Oracle Project Collaboration and Oracle Sourcing, helps companies collaboratively manage all product-related activities across the enterprise and accelerate the new product development and introduction process.
