Win-Wynne situation
Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Lakeview Technology Inc. has announcing its partnering with System i enterprise resource planning provider Wynne Systems Inc. to offer disaster recovery services based on Lakeview’s MIMIX data replication software. With the announcement, Wynne Systems promised customers that have already licensed Wynne software or who receive Wynne application service, the company will provide vaulted, asynchronous data replication. "It’ll run on our hardware," Wynne Systems vice president Mike Stilwagner said. "It costs us money to provide a disaster recovery plan, but we can turn it into something we can drive revenue with."
Stilwagner said contracts will be month to month, and pricing will be based on the level of service and allowable downtime for the company. Lakeview Technology PR pointed out the partnership as a victory over certain competition, noting that Wynne Systems passed over Vision Solutions Inc. and DataMirror Corporation as a disaster recovery provider.
Clabby Analytics president Joe Clabby opined that the scenario shows the advantage of System i channel: “The System i buyer doesn’t want to do integration work themselves. … The big difference between Unix and the System i world is what partners you can get together to get the product through the channel.” Irvine, Calif.-based Wynne Systems, Inc. designs ERP software called RentalMan, a specialty item for construction and rental companies.
